What Ensemble Horizons 2026 Reminded Me About Travel, People and the Future of PTM

There are some conferences you attend because they are on the calendar.

And then there are the ones that stay with you.

Ensemble Horizons 2026 at Resorts World Las Vegas was one of those rare weeks that felt bigger than a conference. Yes, there were the sessions, the supplier meetings, the keynotes, the award celebrations and the unmistakable Las Vegas sparkle. But underneath all of that was something far more meaningful: a reminder of why this industry still matters so deeply, and why the role of the travel advisor is not fading into the background. It is becoming more essential.

Over three days, I attended 15 sessions and met with 45 vendors. That is a lot of handshakes, conversations, coffees, quick hallway catch-ups and notebook scribbles. But what I will remember most is not the number of meetings. I will remember the feeling in the room.

The energy was intentional. Curious. Forward-looking. Human.

And for me, that is where the magic of travel has always lived.

Together Was More Than a Theme

One of the strongest threads running through Horizons this year was community. Not community as a buzzword, but community as something you could actually feel.

Ensemble President Michael Johnson said something that really landed with me:

“It’s never been our goal to be the biggest. It’s always been our goal to be the best.”

That sentence captured so much of what I believe about business, travel and leadership.

Bigger is not always better. Louder is not always stronger. Growth only matters when it is rooted in purpose, service, relationships and care.

That philosophy feels very aligned with how we have been shaping Personal Travel Management (PTM). We are a boutique agency, but boutique does not mean small in ambition. It means intentional. It means personal. It means we know our advisors, we know our clients and we understand that travel is never just a transaction.

It is trust.

It is nuance.

It is knowing when someone wants a seamless luxury escape, when they need reassurance, when they are celebrating something deeply personal, or when they are stepping into a place where identity, belonging and safety matter.

That is the kind of travel business I believe in. That is the kind of agency we are building.

The Human Advisor Is Not Going Anywhere

A lot of conversations at Horizons naturally turned to AI and automation. That is no surprise. Every industry is trying to understand what technology will reshape, replace, simplify or accelerate.

But the message at Ensemble was refreshingly clear: AI may change how we work, but it does not change why we matter.

Algorithms can gather information. They can suggest destinations, surface reviews and package options. But they cannot truly understand a person’s emotional landscape. They cannot read between the lines of a client’s story. They cannot know the difference between “I need a holiday” and “I need to feel like myself again.”

Michael Johnson spoke about the value of human connection in travel, and I found myself nodding along. Travel advisors do not simply book trips. We interpret dreams. We manage complexity. We advocate when things go sideways. We connect humans to other humans.

And in a world that is getting faster, noisier and more automated, that kind of human expertise is not becoming less valuable. It is becoming the luxury.

Travel With Purpose, Not Just Polish

One of the standout moments for me was the conversation around expedition-style travel, legacy trips, conservation and storytelling through Kensington’s partnership with the Explorers Club.

The idea of a “legacy trip” stayed with me.

These are the journeys grandparents, parents and families plan not because they want to tick another destination off a list, but because they want to share something meaningful together. They want a story that becomes part of the family fabric. They want a memory that outlives the itinerary.

That is such a powerful reminder of where luxury travel is going. Luxury is no longer just about thread count, room category or private transfers, although I will never underestimate the joy of a beautifully executed arrival. True luxury is increasingly about meaning. Access. Transformation. Privacy. Purpose. A sense that the trip was designed around who the traveller is, not simply where they are going.

We also heard how thoughtfully planned tourism can support wildlife protection, conservation and local communities. That matters. Travel has power, and with that power comes responsibility.

The best travel does not just take people somewhere beautiful. It helps them understand why that beauty matters, and how their choices can help protect it.

Advocacy Matters, Especially for Canadian Advisors

As a Canadian agency, I also appreciated the ACTA perspective brought forward by Suzanne Acton-Gervais.

Her reminder that “Ensemble” means “together” in French felt beautifully fitting. This industry really is built on people, on relationships, on the connections we create and the trust we earn every day.

Her comments around advocacy were especially important. Canadian travel advisors continue to navigate a complex regulatory environment, including duplicative requirements across provinces, consumer protection rules and insurance considerations. These are not abstract issues. They affect real advisors trying to run strong, ethical and sustainable businesses.

The line that stayed with me was:

“Individually, you are powerful. Together, we’re even more powerful, impactful and influential.”

That is true for our industry, and it is true inside our own agency.

None of us builds something meaningful alone.

A Night I Will Forever Embrace

Of course, Horizons ended with celebration, and Ensemble knows how to celebrate.

There was a beautiful sense of camaraderie as nearly 1,000 attendees gathered for the final moments of the conference, including the awards, the group photo and the Global Travel Advisor Day festivities at Zouk Nightclub and Ayu Dayclub.

But for me, the most emotional moment was seeing Personal Travel Management recognised.

PTM was nominated in two Canadian award categories:

Innovation Award (Canada) and Member Excellence Award (Canada)

And then we won.

Personal Travel Management was honoured with the Member Excellence Award, Canada.

I am incredibly proud. I am deeply grateful. And I am still letting the moment settle in.

This recognition means so much because it reflects the people behind PTM. Our advisors are talented, passionate, generous and deeply committed to their clients. They show up with curiosity. They support one another. They keep learning. They care about the details. They understand that great travel advising is both an art and a responsibility.

I am also incredibly thankful for our leadership team. This past year has required vision, patience, courage and a willingness to reimagine what a boutique agency can be. We have been reshaping, refining and rebuilding with intention, not because something was broken, but because we know there is so much more possible.

And to Ensemble, thank you for your partnership, support and belief in our agency. We are proud to be part of a community that values quality, connection and advisor success.

The Future Feels Bright

Awards are wonderful. I will not pretend they are not. There is something very special about having your work seen and celebrated by your peers.

But the award is not the finish line.

It is a marker along the way.

It reminds me that we are moving in the right direction. It reminds me that the long conversations, the strategic decisions, the hard work behind the scenes and the care we pour into this agency matter.

Most of all, it reminds me that PTM is not just an agency. It is a community of people who believe in the power of travel, the importance of human connection and the future of the professional travel advisor.

I left Las Vegas feeling proud.

Proud of our team.

Proud of our partners.

Proud of this industry.

Proud of what we are building together.

And more than anything, I left excited.

The future of travel will absolutely include technology, innovation and new ways of working. But at its heart, travel will always be personal. It will always be about people. It will always be about stories.

And that is exactly where PTM belongs.
