A Journey of Luxury, Culture, and Natural Beauty
Tokyo is a city of endless layers—a place where ultramodern luxury and ancient traditions coexist, and where serenity can be found just steps away from the neon lights. My recent stay in Tokyo was nothing short of extraordinary, offering moments of both excitement and reflection. Here’s a guide to the unforgettable highlights that made my Tokyo experience one for the soul.
An Elevated Stay at BELLUSTAR TOKYO, A Pan Pacific Hotel – Shinjuku
Rising above the bustling heart of Shinjuku, BELLUSTAR TOKYO, perched on floors 39-47, is a sanctuary in the sky. From the moment I entered, I felt enveloped by Japanese omotenashi—hospitality at its most refined. The rooms blend Japanese aesthetics with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame Tokyo’s iconic skyline. Staying in a penthouse suite was a dream, complete with access to the exclusive Sky Private Villa, three exquisite restaurants, and a spa offering personalized treatments high above the city. BELLUSTAR is where luxury and tradition merge, creating a serene retreat in the heart of Tokyo.
The Conrad Hotel – Shiodome: Views, Dining, and Rejuvenation
For yet another luxurious escape, consider a few nights at the Conrad in Shiodome. Positioned on floors 28-37, the Conrad offers sweeping views of Tokyo Bay and the lush Hamarikyu Gardens. With easy access to the subway, the hotel serves as a perfect base for exploring the city, but its amenities make it hard to leave. I indulged in gourmet French and Chinese cuisine, capping off my evenings at the stylish TwentyEight Bar & Lounge. The full-service spa and 25-meter pool provided the perfect reset after days spent exploring Tokyo’s vibrant streets.
SORANO HOTEL – Tachikawa: A Sanctuary of Wellness and Nature
For a refreshing change of pace, I ventured to the SORANO HOTEL in Tachikawa. This wellness-focused escape overlooks the sprawling Showa Kinen Park, immersing guests in nature and calm. Spacious rooms with panoramic views of the park create a peaceful retreat, and the hotel’s spa and dining focus on well-being and rejuvenation. SORANO struck a beautiful balance between luxury and tranquility—a restorative break from Tokyo’s urban energy.
Auberge TOKITO – Tachikawa: Intimate Luxury and Japanese Craftsmanship
For a truly exclusive experience, Auberge TOKITO in Tachikawa was an absolute gem. With only four suites, each featuring a private outdoor hot spring bath, this small auberge embodies quiet elegance. The cuisine—a thoughtful fusion of Japanese and Western flavors—was unforgettable, with dishes like Silkie chicken porridge that celebrate local ingredients. Auberge TOKITO felt like my own hidden haven, offering a unique immersion into Japanese artistry and hospitality.
Tokyo’s Unmissable Experiences
Tea & Sword Drawing at Hisui Tokyo Stepping into the traditional arts of Japan, I experienced a serene tea ceremony and learned the basics of batto, or Japanese swordsmanship, using a real katana. This hands-on immersion was both energizing and grounding, connecting me to Japan’s cultural roots.
I had the unforgettable experience of dining at the Momokawa Lounge and witnessing an extraordinary dinner show that left me inspired and deeply moved.
The evening’s featured artist was the talented Karen Mizuki, performing a piece called Asazuma-bune, a traditional Japanese dance inspired by the painting "Asazuma-bunezu" by Itcho Hanabusa. Through graceful movements, she brought to life the story of a Shirabyoshi—a performer who sings and dances to kagura songs and ancient recitations. In this enchanting tale, the Shirabyoshi floats on a boat across Lake Biwa, offering comfort to weary travellers with her mesmerizing songs and dances.
Watching Karen Mizuki perform was like stepping back in time. Her elegance and skill made me feel as if I, too, was journeying across the serene waters of Lake Biwa. This experience reminded me of the beauty of tradition and the power of art to transcend time, leaving an indelible mark on the heart. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend visiting Momokawa Lounge for an evening that will stay with you long after the last bow.

I’m surrounded by the best of Koto City’s shops and eateries, each serving authentic Edomae-style dishes—sushi, savory eel, and more—all crafted to perfection by expert hands.
As I wander, the scent of seasonal ingredients fills the air, drawing me in to sample delicacies carefully selected by masterful wholesalers. I can’t resist stopping at a counter to savour each bite or simply strolling as I snack, letting my appetite lead the way.
The experience wouldn’t be complete without a stop on the 8th floor. Here, I dip my feet into the Senkyaku Banrai foot bath garden, a peaceful, complimentary escape with panoramic views of Toyosu. Tokyo’s Natural Retreats: Beyond the Bustle

Hinohara Village A visit to Hinohara Village in western Tokyo offered a tranquil escape, with bamboo groves, scenic trails, and breathtaking waterfalls. It was the perfect balance to the urban excitement, grounding me in Tokyo’s natural beauty.

Eating My Way Through Tokyo: An Adventure in Flavor and Culture
Exploring Tokyo's culinary landscape is an adventure like no other. From charming izakayas to bustling ramen shops, intimate sushi bars, and Michelin-starred establishments that blend Japanese and Western flavors, the city offers endless options for every taste. Here’s a look at some unforgettable highlights from my journey.
Lunch at Le Pristine TOKYO
I began my day at Le Pristine TOKYO, a culinary gem that combines fine dining with an inviting, festive atmosphere. Founded by Michelin-starred chef Sergio Herman, Le Pristine is a tribute to pure Italian flavors infused with Sergio’s Zeeland roots, a style he calls “NEW ITALIAN.” Every detail here reflects Sergio’s passions—from the music to the art, design, and fashion that give the space its unique personality. Housed in the stunning Toranomon Hills Station Tower and designed by the renowned Danish firm Space Copenhagen, Le Pristine Tokyo is a seamless blend of architecture, hospitality, and culinary artistry. Each dish brought out the vibrancy of seasonal ingredients, capturing both the spirit of Italy and the elegance of Japan. This was more than just a meal; it was an inspiring, sensory journey that set the tone for the day.
Dinner at Suigian in Nihonbashi
As evening approached, I found myself at Suigian - Momokawa Lounge, tucked beneath the historic Fukutoku Shrine in Nihonbashi. The experience felt like stepping into another era, with a Noh stage at the center where traditional Japanese performances unfolded as we dined. Suigian’s cuisine celebrates Japan’s “24 seasons and 72 micro-seasons,” making each course a tribute to the changing natural landscape. Highlights included mackerel pickled in rice bran, simmered beef tongue, and a warm rice dish with chestnut and mushroom. Seasonal teas, artful cocktails, and matcha were paired to perfection, bringing the meal to a satisfying close.
Lunch at Auberge TOKITO
The next day, I visited Auberge TOKITO, where Head Chef Hiroki Hiyama’s skills were on full display. Hiyama, with experience in Italy and London, brought a fresh perspective to Japanese ingredients, crafting thoughtful combinations like saury with Kyoho grapes and golden-eye red snapper. A dessert of pear paired with 12-year Hakushu whisky provided a delightful finish. Each dish told a story, showcasing the chef's unique blend of global and Japanese influences.
Tokyo’s dining scene goes far beyond just food; it’s an immersive journey that celebrates the seasons, honors tradition, and pushes the boundaries of creativity. If you’re in Tokyo, these spots offer an incredible taste of Japanese artistry and passion—I highly recommend them as they’re a true celebration of Japan’s beauty and culture.

From unforgettable culinary experiences and immersive cultural moments to peaceful natural retreats, Tokyo has a way of touching the spirit.
