Crystal Symphony in Vancouver: A gorgeous day aboard

There are few better ways to spend a day in Vancouver than stepping aboard Crystal Symphony for a little luxury-cruise exploration, especially when an extraordinary lunch is part of the assignment.

What struck me again during this visit is just how much space and choice Crystal offers for only 606 guests. Symphony accommodates those guests across just 330 ocean-view guest rooms and suites. Add nine dining venues, expansive public spaces, personal butler service for every accommodation and one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios at sea, and you begin to understand what makes the Crystal experience different. There is room to breathe, plenty to do and a level of attentive service that feels personal rather than programmed.
I loved catching up with Cathy, now retired from the Crystal family, and joining Jordana, my A&K Travel Group Canada sales director, for an in-depth tour while Symphony was alongside in Vancouver.
We visited ten different guest rooms and suites, which gave me a terrific look at the range of accommodation and the work completed since the ship emerged from her 2025 drydock. From beautifully appointed guest rooms to those very tempting Sapphire Suites, the overall impression is polished, residential and wonderfully comfortable.
And yes, she is looking gorgeous.
So much ship, so few guests
This is where Crystal Symphony really makes an impression.
With only 606 guests aboard, her public areas feel exceptionally generous. There is a remarkable collection of places to eat, drink, relax, listen to music, catch a show, dance, play and simply watch the world sail past.
For entertainment alone, consider the choices: Crystal Cove, Galaxy Lounge, The Lounge, Hollywood Theatre, Jade Night Club, Starlite Club, Avenue Saloon, Connoisseur Club, Le Casino de Monte-Carlo, Palm Court and the Pool Deck Stage.
Then add the Aurōra Spa, fitness centre, library, games and enrichment spaces, golf facilities, pickleball - Wimbledon Court, plus all those quiet corners where you can settle in with a coffee or cocktail.
It is one of the things I appreciate most about Crystal. Luxury does not have to mean sitting quietly in a beautiful room wondering what to do next. On Symphony, your day can have as much or as little energy as you choose.
And then, naturally, we ate…
Crystal’s culinary programme remains one of its greatest strengths, with nine distinct dining options aboard.
We toured Umi Uma by Nobu Matsuhisa, home to Nobu’s celebrated Japanese-Peruvian cuisine and sushi. Crystal proudly describes it as the only Nobu restaurant at sea.
Then came Osteria D’Ovidio, Crystal’s chic Italian fine-dining restaurant, with menus developed in collaboration with the acclaimed Alajmo brothers; Beefbar, bringing Riccardo Giraudi’s globally inspired flavours aboard; and Marketplace, the relaxed indoor-outdoor option for breakfast and lunch.
Our tour culminated with an extraordinary lunch in Waterside, Symphony’s elegant main dining room, where seasonal cuisine, a changing menu and ocean views make lunch feel decidedly more glamorous than an average Tuesday in Vancouver.
And throughout the ship, that high-touch Crystal service is very much part of the experience. Personal butler service is included across the accommodation categories, alongside touches such as 24-hour in-suite dining, beverages, turndown service and other thoughtful amenities.
The A&K connection
Jordana also gave us a wonderful overview of the A&K Travel Group, bringing together Abercrombie & Kent, Crystal, Cox & Kings and Ecoventura.
I sometimes describe A&K Travel Group as the Louis Vuitton of the travel world: memorable moments, refined hospitality, extraordinary comfort and a serious obsession with the details.
Naturally, this discussion did absolutely nothing to reduce my travel wish list.
Life goal: an A&K Private Jet journey with my besties, followed by a Crystal World Cruise in a Sapphire Suite.
One must have goals. 🥂
Why Crystal remains one of my favourite luxury cruise partners
Of all my luxury cruise partners, Crystal continues to stand out for the diversity of its culinary, entertainment and hospitality experiences.
You can have Nobu for dinner, see a show afterwards, sip a cocktail at Avenue Saloon, dance at Jade, spend a quiet morning in the library, play pickleball before lunch and retreat to the spa when your ambitions finally require a lie-down.
And because Symphony carries just 606 guests, all that choice comes without the sensation of travelling on a floating metropolis.
For today’s luxury traveller, that combination is compelling: space, choice, thoughtful design, excellent food and intuitive service.
Crystal’s next chapter is also taking shape, with Crystal Grace joining the fleet and additional new ships to follow. I am very excited to see where this next generation of Crystal takes the brand.
